Planning and Design

Permaculture Design

The Permaculture design process is a holistic approach to understanding the dynamic life systems at work on your site, and putting them to use to optimize the yields that you would like to see. Our Permaculture design services can be as simple as troubleshooting a particular aspect of your site, like creative solutions for stormwater management, to a full-scale master plan, implementation schedule, and management plan. The Permaculture design process is flexible, and can be tailored to fit your needs and budget.

          Client Interview

The first step in the design process is for us to learn more about you and your site. We have a comprehensive client interview form that we will send you so we can get to know more about you and your hopes and visions. Please contact us and we’ll send you our client interview form.

         Initial Site Visit

Once we’ve gotten a chance to peruse your client interview information, we’ll schedule an initial site visit. This process usually takes from 2-4 hours, and includes time for quiet observation, preliminary site assessment, and in-depth conversations with you about your relationship with the site. We will be looking at the plants, the patterns of water and air movement, presence of wildlife, soils, topography, and other facets of developing a holistic understanding of your unique site. By overlaying these observed site attributes with your hopes for the site, we can help come up with some preliminary ideas about how you may move forward.

After the site visit, we will provide you with a written overview of what we discussed, along with recommendations for next steps. If you choose to move forward with implementation, then we can come up with a comprehensive plan, budget, and timeline for each project.

Pre-Purchase Property Assessments

Buying a home or land is one of the biggest financial decisions made in a lifetime.  It is important to be sure that you are making the best investment for what you are wanting to accomplish.  As landowners ourselves, we know that purchasing that perfect piece of land or urban homestead-to-be can be a daunting task. There are so many elements to consider when it comes to knowing whether a particular site is going to suit your needs and visions. This is why we like to offer pre-purchase site assessments. We have spent a lot of time observing, planting, digging, sawing, and otherwise mucking around on land throughout the West Coast, and are happy to be able to offer advice to prospective landowners about the feasibility, potential challenges, and likely opportunities a site may have to offer.
