Forest Stewardship Plans

Landowners and land stewards can apply to their local office of the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), or the local forestry agency such as the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) to access funding for developing a Forest Stewardship Plan.

As a consulting forester for ODF, and a Technical Service Provider (TSP) in Forestry for the NRCS, Abel can work with you to apply for funding for these plans. Generally, the funding covers 50-75% of the cost to develop the plan.

These plans offer a comprehensive overview of your site through the lens of the forest ecosystem, but take into account the entire site and your goals for it. In this way, Forest Stewardship Plans are an excellent way to get some of the preliminary site assessment work done for a comprehensive Permaculture plan on forested sites.

Please find a sample plan here.

Once your Forest Stewardship Plan is complete, Abel can help connect you with additional funding for implementation of practices identified in the plan, including timber stand improvement, fire resilience enhancements, vegetation management, oak savanna restoration, and more. In Oregon, we also work with local watershed councils to amplify potential project funding.
